Couch Oil Company Matches All Donations to Couch Oil Cares Up to $75,000
During Couch Oil Company’s 75th Anniversary Celebration in October 2024, owner and president, Steve Couch announced a significant commitment to the local community: Couch Oil Company will match all donations to its education-focused nonprofit, Couch Oil Cares, up to $75,000 through April 26, 2025.
Couch Oil Cares has already raised $30,000 towards this ambitious goal, but an additional $45,000 is needed. With only one month left, they are optimistic about achieving this with the support of local families and businesses who share their passion for supporting local education.
Funds raised through this campaign will contribute to various projects, including the Couch Oil Cares Scholarship, Fill ’er Up Backpack Drive, Teachers’ Dream Supply List, as well as other new endeavors. Couch Oil Cares also aims to expand its reach and support of local schools through a teacher grant program and the enhancement of its scholarship.
This initiative reflects Couch Oil Company’s unwavering commitment to supporting local education. Both Steve and his sister, Janice Couch Thompson, are Durham natives and graduated from Durham County Schools. Janice, who retired from Durham Public Schools in 2012, dedicated her entire 30-year career as a school counselor at Carrington Middle School and Northern High School. Couch Oil Cares board member Kathie Davidson, is also a retired DPS educator, having taught at Riverside High School and Northern High School over her 31-year career. As the family business expanded, Steve and Janice established Couch Oil Cares as a means of giving back to the community that shaped them. Through Couch Oil Cares, the company has championed programs that benefit students, teachers, and schools, embodying Couch Oil's core values of Family, Excellence, and Community.
Since 2015, Couch Oil Cares, in collaboration with the Durham Bulls Baseball Club, has awarded 54 scholarships to deserving high school students in the Couch Oil service area. Now in its 11th year, the organization will once again present six scholarships of $2,000 each at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in July 2025.
Over the past year, Couch Oil Cares has expanded its initiatives through partnerships with local schools. They organized their inaugural Fill ’er Up Backpack Drive and Teachers’ Dream Supply List with the support of employees, customers, and community connections. Through these efforts, they collected 60 backpacks filled with essential supplies for students in need. Additionally, they surprised four Northern High School teachers and the entire Hillandale Elementary School faculty with supplies for the upcoming school year.
To express gratitude to its donors, Couch Oil Cares will host a $75k Match Campaign Celebration on April 26, 2025. This donor celebration aims to bring together like-minded individuals who share a passion for supporting students and teachers in the local education system.
